The Mathsport is the academic equivalent to a passport. When children reach a certain level in Maths knowledge they are tested and if they pass all the elements of the award (for example bronze award) then they have their Mathsport stamped with the school stamp and are awarded a certificate. The children are tested once a term by the Head teacher and can complete the whole award or just some elements of it.The awards in progressing difficulty are -
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Crystal.
To gain the Bronze award children must be able to -
- Remember all number bonds to ten
- Know all addition facts to 5
- Know all subtraction facts to 5
- Count on and back in 1′s
- Count on and back in 2′s
- Count on and back in 5′s
- Count on and back in 10′
- Know all doubles to at least a total of ten
- Remember all addition facts to at least ten
- Remember all subtraction facts to at least 10
To gain the Crystal award children must be able to -
- Work out Tens and Units divided by units (with a remainder) quickly, working beyond known table facts
- Divide decimal numbers (to one decimal point) by 2 and 5
- Work out whether a number is a prime (up to 100)
- Find the lowest common multiples of two numbers
- Multiply Tens and units or units by negative integers
- Find the difference between positive and negative numbers (to one decimal point)
- Quickly work out multiplication and division involving an integer and a decimal number (to one decimal point)
- Recognise, extend and complete mathematical sequences
