The Governors

The Governing Body of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is made up of volunteers appointed by Parents, the Diocese (Foundation), the Local Authority and the Staff as follows:

  • 3 Parent Governors

  • 10 Foundation Governors

  • 2 Authority Governors

  • 3 Staff Governors (including Head Teacher)

The role of the Governing Body is pastoral and strategic, setting the direction, aims, priorities and policies of the School, including the Pre-School. The role of the Head Teacher and the School Management Team is to manage the School and report to the Governing Body. The Governing Body can delegate responsibilities to an individual Governor, to the Head Teacher or to a Committee of the Governing Body. The Committees of the Governing Body of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and their key responsibilities are listed below.

The Curriculum and Standards Committee is responsible for reviewing the academic targets with the Head Teacher and for monitoring progress and results against those targets.

The Finance and Extended Services Committee is responsible for agreeing the annual budget with the Head Teacher and the Business Manager and for monitoring expenditure. This Committee also controls capital expenditure on premises.

The Premises and Health & Safety Committee is responsible for the maintenance and development of the premises, as well as Health & Safety.

The Marketing Committee is responsible for promoting the School to the Parents and prospective parents and for encouraging two-way communications between Parents, the School, the Governing Body and the local community. This Committee is also responsible for the School website, Community Cohesion and the School Travel Plan.

The Personnel and Pay Review Committee is responsible for determining the staffing and management structure of the School. Whilst the Diocese owns the land and buildings, the Governing Body is the legal employer of the School staff.
